Investment Areas
Embedding sustainable geospatial training within academic institutions to build long-term expertise and local ownership.
Our comprehensive assessments identified a critical gap in how geospatial knowledge is developed, maintained, and applied across health systems in Nigeria and DRC. Traditional training approaches have often been fragmented, unsustained, and disconnected from local institutional structures. The Geospatial Capacity Institutionalization investment area transforms this approach by creating permanent pathways for geospatial capability development within established academic and professional institutions.
Key Challenges Addressed:
Fragmented, project-based training initiatives
Limited knowledge retention due to staff turnover
Disconnect between training content and practical needs
Dependency on external technical assistance
Strategic Approach:
This investment area creates sustainable knowledge pathways through:
Curriculum standardization and integration into formal education
Faculty development at academic institutions
Professional certification frameworks
Knowledge repositories and resource sharing platforms
The Curriculum Institutionalization Program embeds geospatial curriculum within established institutions to create permanent training pathways for health data professionals. This program is implemented at both national and subnational levels. This program operates at both national and subnational levels:
National Level:
Developing standardized, modular curriculum through collaborative design
Creating centralized knowledge repositories accessible across institutions
Establishing certification frameworks recognized by employers
Integrating curriculum into existing academic programs
Subnational Level:
This investment area creates sustainable knowledge pathways through:
Adapting curriculum to local contexts and priority health challenges
Building faculty capacity within regional institutions
Creating practical learning opportunities through local health agencies
Establishing communities of practice for continuous learning
